Waelzholz and thyssenkrupp take important step towards green steel production

Waelzholz is using bluemint® precidur® brand low-emission primary material for the first time. The product manufactured by thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg was delivered in mid-April and has a carbon footprint that has been reduced by 75 percent. The delivery is an important milestone in both companies’ strategy of actively combating climate change with more environmentally friendly products.

“The first delivery of low-emission hot-rolled steel strip from our long-standing supplier thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg is an important step for us on the road to climate neutrality,” emphasized Dr. Matthias Gierse, CSO/CPO at the Waelzholz Group. “A 75-percent reduction in carbon emissions is impressive and will help us as we strive to achieve completely carbon-neutral production operations by 2045 at the latest. After all, in order to achieve our goals, we are dependent on both innovation on the part of our suppliers and our customers’ willingness to rely on high-quality products with excellent environmental performance. We can only make decisive progress towards decarbonization along the steel value chain if we work together.”

Holistic sustainability

This delivery marks the beginning of a new era for more sustainable materials in the steel industry and underlines our commitment to environmental protection and innovation.”

thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg and Waelzholz want to continue their efforts to reduce their environmental footprint in partnership and intend to make further progress together in reducing carbon emissions along the steel value chain.
